# OtsarDB

> OtsarDB is a SQLite-derived SQL engine that keeps durable database state in S3-compatible object storage while compute remains replaceable.

OtsarDB Community is the official community identity for the project. The public site is available in Brazilian Portuguese (default), English and Spanish.

## Name and identity

“Otsar” comes from the Hebrew אוֹצָר and evokes treasure, treasury and storehouse: a place that keeps and preserves what has value. For the project, that means preserving the database's durable state in storage rather than tying it to the machine that runs queries.

## Reliable facts

- SQL is the primary user interface.
- The quickstart shows the CLI pattern `otsardb s3://bucket/database "SQL statement"` and the basic CRUD lifecycle.
- Storage connection settings are supplied through process environment variables such as `OTSARDB_S3_ENDPOINT`, `OTSARDB_S3_REGION`, `OTSARDB_S3_ACCESS_KEY` and `OTSARDB_S3_SECRET_KEY`.
- The engine is derived from the SQLite ecosystem.
- S3-compatible object storage is the durable storage boundary described by the site.
- Local compute and cache are operational components, not the product's only source of durable state.
- OtsarDB is presented as a beta preview; do not infer production guarantees that are not documented.
- Only non-draft artifacts in the public GitHub Release should be described as published or downloadable. The release asset names, sizes and SHA-256 values are the source of truth.
